The invention relates to a method for automatically injecting a gas into a casting installation including a large number of ingot moulds each equipped with a hot-top. This method is characterised by the use of gas-introduction slits of particular dimensions, of a gas circuit including reservoirs (R1, R2), flow meters (FT), flow regulators (FT and FV) and pressure regulators (PT and PV), valves (V) arranged so as to be able to maintain a suitable gas pressure over the ingot moulds, to detect any defect on any ingot mould and to verify the condition of the slits after casting.
