Sunflower plants having a high frequency of regenerability of fertile plants from isolated protoplasts and method of using same

A sunflower variety designated PTO24 has been found to have a very high capability of regenerating fertile plants from single protoplasts. A method of using said variety to regenerate fertile sunflower plants and to impart the regenerative trait to other, non-regenerating varieties is also disclosed.
