SELECTIVE SEPARATION OF IODINE USING A CROWN ETHER

A method for selectively separating iodine using a crown ether, wherein the iodine is extracted from an aqueous solution by dicyclohexyl-18-crown-6 (DC18C6) diluted in tetrachloroethane after adding a reducing agent, K+ ions and Pd(II) to the solution. Selectivity is high. The method may therefore be used for the quantitative analysis of iodine 129 in aqueous solutions from the reprocessing of waste nuclear fuels.
