Process for the production of an alkylbenzene from benzene and from an aliphatic monoolefin in the presence of a catalyst based on a dealuminised zeolite Y with a SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio of between 8 and 70, the product of this reaction being then fractionated into a first fraction containing unconverted benzene and a monoalkylbenzene and a second fraction containing a polyalkylbenzene, the said second fraction then reacting with benzene in the presence of a catalyst based on a dealuminised mordenite with an overall Si/Al atomic ratio of between 30 and 80. …??The invention applies especially to the production of ethylbenzene and cumene from ethylene and propene respectively.
