Pure human plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (e-PAI) is disclosed, in particular pure e-PAI which has an apparent molecular weight of about 54,000 and a purity of at least 75% as estimated from photometric scanning at 600 nm of Coomassie Blue stained polyacrylamide gels and/or which contains only one protein band which has an apparent molecular weight of about 54,000 as evaluated by Coomassie Blue stained polyacrylamide gel.;Moreover, a method for production of pure human plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (e-PAI) comprising subjecting material containing human plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (e-PAI), such as material containing HT-1080 fibrosarcoma cells, to immunoadsorption chromatography using monoclonal e-PAI antibodies and human e-PAI purified by means of immunoadsorption chromatography is disclosed.
