The invention relates to a method of preventing transmission of viral pathogens between a source of viral pathogens and a target of these viral pathogens, the method comprising placing between said source and said target a microporous membrane material comprising : 1) polytetrafluoroethylene or a thermoplastic polymer and 2) a fluorochemical water repellent and oil and conferring to said membrane barrier properties oloéophobes, hydrophobic and viral, said membrane being oriented in at least one direction.
