A target seeking mine (11) has a launch tube (13) for its target seeking submunition (12) having a coaxially oriented target sensor (12), the novelty is that (a) a deflector (21) is provided ahead of the launch tube (13) for deflecting the emitted energy of the active sensor (19) into a path transverse to the longitudinal axis (26) of the mine: and (b) the signal processor (20) of the sensor (19) is associated with a proximity and target classification signal processing device (28) for initiating a launching charge (41). ADVANTAGE - The mine has high attack effectiveness against actual targets, due to enhanced target criteria acquisition and evaluation, without significantly increased sensor costs.
