The air filter (2) is fitted to the inlet side (5) of the IC engine (1) and has an inlet aperture (3) and an outlet one (4), coupled to the engine inlet side. The air filter is enclosed by a sound-proof encapsulation (7). The capsule has a suction port (8) and a through-flow aperture (9), with the air filter inlet aperture formed in the capsule. The latter is pref. fitted with a sound damping layer (10) on its inside, facing the air filter. The inner capsule surface may be reflective. ADVANTAGE - Considerably reduced noise emission.
