Working cylinder with a braking and/or clamping device which is joined to the piston (12) of the working cylinder (10). The clamping elements (62, 62A) of the device lie against the inner wall (63) of the housing (11). The locking action is activated by a tension spring (58, 58A) and in order to release the elements, pressure in a chamber (53, 53A) is used to move the actuation piston (50, 50A). The actuation pressure chamber is connected by channels with the working pressure chamber (14, 15). ADVANTAGE - Allows the clamping mechanism to be actuated without a separate pressure supply; ensures the structure of the cylinder is kept compact.
