The testing device supplies a gas or liquid test medium at a raised or reduced pressure to the hollow space between 2 seals (3, 4) for the pipe connection, lying on the inside of the pipe, with a pressure measuring device monitoring the pressure within this hollow space. Each of the pipe seals is provided as an elastomer cuff, one or both of which are pressed against the inside face of the pipe by a clamp ring. Pref. the hollow space between the seals is coupled via a test line (8) to the pressure medium source, with the pressure measuring device incorporated in the test line.
