Heparin-polymer conjugates comprise heparin fragments having a terminal anhydromannose gp. bonded by reductive amination to the amino gp. of a polymer contg. amino-substd. phenyl gps. The polymer is a polysulphone, polyurethane, polyimide, polystyrene, polyisopropylene or polybutadiene contg. a terminal amino-substd. phenyl gp., which is present esp. on the surface of the polymer. The heparin fragments are obtd. by cleaving native heparin with HNO2 and opt. fractionating the mixt. obtd. USE/ADVANTAGE - The conjugates are used to inhibit coagulation in analytical tests, to coat implants, instruments, venous catheters, cardiac pacemaker conductors and medical probes, and to mfr. diagnostics and retard formulations.
