A process and device are disclosed for regulating the flue gas temperature (T) at the outlet of a steam generator (1) with a heating surface (5) for transmitting heat from the flue gas (R) to the supply water (S). In order to prevent the flue gas temperature from falling below a set value (Ts) when it enters a cleaning installation (7), the heating surface (5) used by the flowing supply water (S) is modified when the flue gas temperature (Ti) changes.
