Double gear train for printing machine - incorporates couplings between end gears of train to take up backlash

The system is designed to minimise the effects of backlash in a long train of gears esp. in a multicolour rotary printing machine. A first train of gears (1) is connected to a power source, and various gears (2,3,5,6,7,9,10) are rigidly connected to shafts (11,12,13,14,15,16,17) eg. for printing cylinders. There is a second gear train (23) identical to the first, with the gears (25,27,28,29,31) rotating freely on the printing cylinder shafts. The first (24) and the last (32) of the gears in this train are rigidly attached to their shafts and there are drive members (48,54) between the first and last pairs of gears to apply a torque to take up the backlash.
