The metal carrier (1) for exhaust catalysts consists of a continuous metal strip (3) which runs back and forth between a centre (7) and an outer cover (2), and contacts the inner surface of this cover. The novelty is that the strip (3) is a thin corrugated metal strip arranged in loops (5) which are located directly side by side and run spirally outwards from the centre (7). Prodn. of the carrier is also claimed by winding the strip into circular ring, converting this ring into a narrow-leaved rosette, folding the leaves of the rosette spirally over one another and inserting the resultant structure into an outer cover. USE/ADVANTAGE - In motor vehicles. In comparison with known catalysts, the active surface area is enlarged, the mfr. is simplified and the cost is reduced.
