Integrated optical bidirectional Y=shaped injection laser termination for data communication - has photodetector and reflection modulator in respective branches of Y, and couples to external optical path at opposite end of Y
The termination controlling device has a Y-shaped transmitting and receiving waveguide (5) in a monolithic integrated structure. The waveguide structure (5) branches out from an interferometric injection laser (20). The waveguide structure has segments which can be individually driven. The device is operated so that one of branches forms the receiving branch and the other forms the transmitting branch. A segment (1) which serves both branches is coupled to a light-guide by the end face (21). One segment of the receiving branch operates as an optical/electrical converter and one segment of the transmitting branch operates as a reflection modulator. USE/ADVANTAGE - For simultaneous bidirectional optical information exchange. Transmitting and receiving section operates with little loss and requires no adjustment of light path.
