Alkyl and/or alkenyl poly:glucoside prod. - by acid-catalysed reaction of fatty alcohol with sugar in falling-film reactor

Prodn. of alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycosides (I) is effected by acid-catalysed acetalisation of fatty alcohols with sugars in a falling-film reactor. The reaction is carried out at 145-160 deg. C and 1-50 mbar in a thin-film evaporator under turbulent flow conditions. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful as nonionic surfactants. Light-coloured prods. with a low polyglycose content are obtained. Hydrated sugars and starch hydrolysates can be used as starting material.
