The optocoupler is monolithically constructed. In one embodiment, beam detectors (2) are arranged in fully dielectrically isolated monocrystalline silicon islands. The dielectric isolation of the monocrystalline islands (4) consists of a light transparent, inorganic amorphous silicon connection (1) with sufficient thickness for a high isolation voltage. A light emitter may be arranged wholly or partly opposite the islands. ADVANTAGE - Highly complex integrated circuit is produced using simpler assembly technology and maximum adaption to planar technology, with breakdown voltage stability of at least 1000 V.
