A mechanical or optical collision sensor (10) is arranged at the front end of the respective prong tips (4) and/or within the prong tips. At least one light or ultrasonic barrier (11) is arranged between the prong tips. At least one ultrasonic scanner is provided, forming respectively a scanning cone (12) at the outside of each prong tip (4) at the truck. At least one pressure responsive switch element can be arranged at the root region of the fork prongs (2) and against the travel direction. ADVANTAGE - Gives exact position of load and eliminates disadvantages of previous such trucks, so that it is suitable for driverless fork lift trucks.
