Gp.=VIII transition metal-carbonyl complexes - are useful as catalysts for the reaction of olefin(s) and perfluoroalkyl halide(s)

In a process for the prodn. of carbonyl complexes of Gp. 8 transition metals (I) in a low oxidn. state with phosphine ligands, the corresp. halo complex is mixed with sodium hydride and carbon monoxide in an aprotic solvent (II). Pref. (II) is a nitrile or an ether and the sodium hydride is used as a suspension in a high boiling alkane or alkane mixt. at 20-80 deg.C and 1-30 bar. USE/ADVANTAGE - The use of the resulting soln. of (I) is claimed as catalyst solns., pref. for homogeneous reactions, pref. the reaction of perfluoroalkyl halides with olefins. (I) are highly active and the solns. of (I) are suitable for direct use as catalysts without further processing.
