The grinding wheel consists of a series of disks (7) bound together side by side on an axis, and having around the periphery of each disk on abrasive layer such as CBN or diamond. Between the disks are spacers (8) of lower wear resistance so that circumferential grooves (11) are formed. The wheel can be given an open structure by having disks with circumferential interruptions which are staggered relative to those of neighbouring disks. To carry out the grinding process on a surface grinder the feed direction U of the workpiece (2) is inclined relative to the rotational axis of the multi-disk grinding wheel. USE/ADVANTAGE - Low heat production and transfer to workpiece. High surface quality is obtained.
