The leakage testing device uses high pressure applied to the inside surface of the tyre and a display device (2) cooperating with part of the tyre outer surface, to provide an air leakage indication. A fragment (14) of a pneumatic tyre can be tested using a frame (3) sealed against the inside face of the tyre, to allow the internal pressure to be applied to a surface area coinciding with that scanned by the display device. ADVANTAGE - Allows defective tyre to be identified from tyre fragments, can detect fragments less than 1 mm in dia., detects very sharp fragments such as glass splinters.
