The laser has an electro-optic, laser active crystal (1) such as Nd:LiNbO3 appropriately orientated and cut. The crystal (1) is cut such that the beam is dispersed in the direction of the x and y axis. The other axis and the z axis are orthogonal to the beam direction. The crystal (1) has electrodes (2,3) perpendicular to the beam direction so that an electric field can be applied parallel to the z axis. The emission wavelength of the laser can be varied by the electric field of the electrodes (2,3). ADVANTAGE - Simple arrangement with high efficiency and quick and wide band tuning.
