An active mode-locked semiconductor fiber ring laser device is constructed as a single mode fiber loop, including a variable optical coupler, a polarization controller, an intensity modulator, an optical isolator, an optical circulator and a scanning fiber grating. A harmonic pulse train is generated by a multi-wavelength mode-locked laser source, and the intensity modulator is driven at the frequency of a whole multiple of the fundamental frequency, corresponding to the length of the laser resonator.
