The spring element which fits under the socket comprises washers (6) of patterned profiled spring steel. These washers rest on one or both sides on the seal (1) at the opening edge (3) and are enclosed by the socket (5). The sheet thickness of the profiled steel plate is pref. between 0.1 and 0.5 mm. The radial wall thickness of the washers equals the socket arm length (5). Where multi-layered flat seals are made up of several superposed plates the washers rest each side on the core plate at the opening edge and are covered by cover plates. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple economic mfr. of flat seal for cylinder head of IC engines. There is sufficient resilient resetting force to ensure long-term seal.
