The first segment (18) of the rake hinges on a horizontal axis (15) at right angles to the water flow direction (1). A positive cleaning device may engage between its bars as it does so. A second segment (17) coaxial to the first is of smaller radius, being situated above it in the normal working position, and behind it on swinging upwards. The gap between the segments in the radial direction is bridged by a plate (21) lifting floating material clear. A positive cleaning device is provided for the second segment also. The difference between the radii of the segments can be between one-eighth and one-half of the radius of the first segment.
