Cut-and-cover construction of tunnel or underground garage

The tunnel or underground garage may be constructed using a cut-and-cover method. First a row of vertical bores (2) is drilled along the line of the walls, going down well below the level of the floor. Prefab. steel and concrete columns (3) are lowered into the holes and concrete (6) is poured in to fill up the holes. The columns have reinforcing rods (5) projecting below their bottom ends.When the wall columns are finished, the roof (9) is constructed and is tied in with the reinforcement (10) at the top of the columns. Reinforced concrete (12) is inserted between the columns and the soil under the roof is excavated down to floor level.
