An electrical power switch of the type used with multi-phase motors has a pair of movable contacts coupled to a mechanism (4) that in turn connects to an actuator arrangement. This has a release mechanism (5) and a manual on/off element (9). The unit incorporates thermal and electromagnetic trigger stages. A cranked lever (2) is held in the switch-on position and is released when a link (13) coupled to a trigger link (14) is operated. The actuator element (20) is moved and the contacts operate at a fixed rate of motion. ADVANTAGE - Provides independent speed of contact opening.
