The synchronisation method allows a transmission to be switched from a cipher feedback mode to an output feedback mode upon synchronisation being attained. The switching criterion is provided by a given number of immediately successive bits of the synchronisation bit pattern at the clear text bit output of the deciphering device. The synchronisation bits can be provided by an uninterrupted sequence of binary zero values, the given number of bits used for the switching criterion being adjustable.
