The cell examination device has a closed perfusion chamber (10) with a perfusion fluid inlet (26) containing a micropipette (28) and a fluid outlet (30) coupled to a suction pump (30). An opening (16) on one side of the perfusion chamber is provided with a seal allowing it to be sealed relative to the substrate (22) onto which the perfusion fluid is deposited. Pref. the opening is provided on the underside of the perfusion chamber, the fluid inlet coupled to a perfusion fluid changing device (12). The perfusion chamber may be electrically screened. ADVANTAGE - Allows rapid changing of perfusion fluid without contamination problems.
