A method and a device are described for simultaneous determination of the absorbable organically bound halogens fluorine (AOF), chlorine (AOCl), bromine (AOBr) and iodine (AOI). In this case, use is made of the radiation emission of the characteristic atomic lines when introducing into a helium plasma the hydrogen halides which result from combustion of an activated charcoal enriched with organic halogen compounds. The invention relates to a device and a method for element-selective determination of the quantity of organically bound halogens in waters (AOX) by combination of the conventional method for AOX determination with plasma-emission spectroscopy. For this purpose, after combustion of the activated charcoal enriched with organic water components, the combustion gases are fed to a plasma-excitation source and determined by means of emission-spectroscopy methods.
