An improved method of matt-etching glass bodies, in particular illumination bodies and an associated device is characterised by the use of specifically shaped clamping arrangements for the transport and/or holding of the illumination bodies to be etched. The lowering movement of the glass bodies to be etched takes place at least partially with a liquid level which is still lowered in relation to the final liquid level of the frosting fluid. IMAGE
