The invention relates to the substitution of CFCs in existing refrigeration systems in which the leakage losses are made up by chlorine-free refrigerant. In accordance with the invention, the working medium R500 (CCl2F2/CHF2CH3) is gradually replaced, in accordance with the losses, especially through leakage, by the refrigerant R134a (CF3CH2F). The compensation of the losses of working medium can be repeated in this procedure until the minimum content of R500 in the mixture of working media reaches from 20 to 30% by mass.
