A liquid separator (1) is inserted within a machine (8) carrying a flow of liquid which has an inlet (11,12) through which a liquid-gas mixture enters a separator chamber (14) and an outlet (13) for liquid. The novelty is that: (a) the liquid-gas mixture passes by or through a separator element (15) within the separation chamber (15), such that a separation of the fluid from the gas takes place at the dynamic flow end (151) of the separation element (15); (b) a flow-stabilising element (17,18) is positioned in the separation chamber (14) downstream from the dynamic flow end (151) where coarse gas removal from the liquid is also effected; and (c) a flow separation barrier (32,33) is located in the subsequent settling chamber for removal of residual gas from the liquid. USE/ADVANTAGE - The appts. separates liquids from gases in general chemical processes, both as a pre-process separator and a post-process separator for the recovery of process liquids. The process facilitates a much higher level of separation than previous processes.
