The method involves reassuring and stratifying a flow of a multiphase fluid before processing the fluid in a separation unit or separator (2) by using a cylindrical chamber (3). Two fluid streams respectively concentrated in gas and liquid are removed on the reassured and stratified fluid by using a drain line (4) and a degassing line (5). The removed streams are delivered at two fluid levels (H, B) contained in the separation unit, where the level (H) is higher than the level (B) in order to reinforce phase separation process by gravity differential developed by the separation unit. An independent claim is also included for a device for separating phases of a multiphase fluid in flow.
