In a process and assembly to separate waste metal particles from refuse, the metallic content is regulated (1) at a station and the non-metallic flow is diverted to the next treatment stage (21), while the metallic content is collected (13). The novelty is that materials collected (13) are passed to a second flow control station (3) at which the metallic content is again regulated, and where the metallic content is diverted. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process separates metallic residues from refuse. The quantity of material which must be removed from the overall volume of refuse is reduced, thus minimising the volume of material to be treated as a metallic residue.
