A surgical clamping device for placing sutures, which comprises a suture base and a suture cover layer connected to the suture base via webs, the tissue layers between the suture base and the suture cover layer being compressed, is designed as an integral device. The strip-shaped suture base (2) has a large number of prong-shaped clamping elements (3) which are arranged at right angles to the plane of the suture base (2) one behind the other at a defined distance in one row or in several parallel rows. Each clamping element (3) comprises a web (4) which is rigid relative to the suture base (2) and a spike (5) which is connected in articulated fashion to the web (4), the spikes (5) being foldable in the same direction in order to form the suture cover layer of the clamping device after penetration of the tissue layers, and the spikes (5) having locking elements which ensure positive connection of adjacent spikes (5).
