Optical shape testing system e.g. for diameter of rotationally-symmetric screw - feeds separated components along inclined path to accelerate components under gravity and tests in free-flight path between flash lamp and high-resolution light-barrier-type camera

The testing device feeds individual screws (1a...1d) to a test path (6) for optically checking via a light source and a camera, coupled to an evaluation stage, positioned on opposite sides of the test path. The path is supplied by an accelerating rail angled downwardly, to the top of which the individual screw elements are fed, with the relative spacing between the screw elements maintained as their velocity increases. Pref. the test path is provided by a free-flight section between the end of the rail and a landing plate (3) at which the screw elements are sorted depending on the optical evaluation. ADVANTAGE - Simplified operation, increased flexibility regarding different test components and improved feeding.
