PVC foam laminates with high resistance to wear and chemicals - by coating PVC foam substrate with plastisol contg. epoxy gp.-contg. PVC resin and plasticiser, and heating to form crosslinked foam layer
Prepn. of plastic laminates (I) comprises applying a layer of plastisol contg. an epoxy gp.-contg. PVC or acrylic resin with mean particle dia. 0.05-5 microns (II) and a plasticiser (III) to the surface of a substrate produced by moulding a vinyl chloride resin compsn. (IV) contg. an organic foaming agent (V), at a temp. below the decompsn. temp. (T) of (V), then producing a layer of foam (A) and a crosslinked protective layer (B) on the surface of (A) by heating to temp. T or above. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used as materials for walls and for the prodn. of floor coverings, etc.. The process enables the prodn. of foam laminates with a protective layer of crosslinked PVC or polyacrylate, with excellent surface strength, abrasion resistance, heat resistance and resistance to chemicals, without using crosslinking agents.
