The invention relates to shaped bodies, fibres and coatings based on PZT (lead zirconate - lead titanate, lead zirconate ititanate), which are obtainable by admixing organic Zr compounds of the formula Zr(OR1)4 (I) and organic Ti compounds of the formula Ti(OR2)4 (II), separately or together and based on 1 mol of the compounds (I) plus (II), with from 0 to 4 mol of an alcohol or a mixture of alcohols of the formula R3-X-R4-OH and/or R3-CX-R4-OH (IV), admixing the resulting mixture(s) or the compounds (I) and (II), separately or together and based on 1 mol in each case of the compounds (I) and (II), with from 1 to 3 mol of one or more carboxylic acids having from 2 to 10 carbon atoms, mixing everything, based on 1 mol of the compounds (I) plus (II), with 1 to 1.5 mol of one or more Pb(II) and/or Pb(IV) carboxylates, subjecting the mixture to a hydrolytic condensation, removing the volatile components until a mass which is solid at room temperature results, heating the solid mass until a high-viscosity liquid is formed, processing this liquid into shaped bodies, fibres or coatings, and heating these to temperatures of at least 500 DEG C.
