The moisture content of fibres for combing is controlled by feeding sliver (4) to a treatment zone (Z) where the moisture content is raised. The sliver is then wound up as a comber lap (3). Sliver from a drawframe runs over a table (5) to a treatment zone (Z) where water is added. The treatment zone can be a fine spray followed by a heater, a steam spray, or a chamber where steam and/or humidified air is applied. USE/ADVANTAGE - For controlling the fibre moisture content at combing. Reduces the demands on air humidity control in the comber area by controlling the moisture content in the material directly.
