The whirling-disc chamber (24) is bounded by the multicylinder block (10) and a first housing (12). A second housing (14) together with the cylinder block defines induction and exhaust chambers (28,26). Rotation of a driving shaft (46) is converted (79) into reciprocating motion of each piston (22) in its cylinder (20) to which fluid is supplied during the induction stroke. The control valve (100) connecting the whirling-disc chamber to the induction chamber (28) is opened by excitation of the electromagnetic clutch (54) coupled to the shaft. USE/ADVANTAGE - In vehicle air-conditioning installations; the whirling plate can be moved to bring its setting angle to approximately zero while the compressor is at a standstill.
