A wet press section for a paper machine has a smooth roll (1.1) touched by the paper web forming a first roll gap (1) with a first counter roll (12). It forms a second roll gap with a second counter roll. A continuous and absorbent felt (F1) runs together with the paper (B) through the two gaps, successively. The second counter roll is a suction roll (3) with an internal stationary sealing support. A second continuous felt (F2) takes over the web (B) from the first felt (F2) and guides it through a third gap. Pref. the smooth surface that is in contact with the paper (B) in the first and the second roll gap represents a rotating press belt. A third roll gap is formed by two press rolls. The third gap associated with the second felt (F2) is part of a longitudinal gap press (II) and the second felt (F2) is the sole felt of this press. ADVANTAGE - The unit eliminates an elongation of the paper while the dry content of the paper is not adversely affected.
