Multilayer composite structures are provided for protection against bullet splinters and/or firearm bullets, even those which are are armoured and jacketed, whose velocity may be around 1000 metres per second. Said structures comprise a combination of metallic materials and synthetic organic fabrics comprising, from the outside inwards: (a) a first area for intensive translational and rotational kinetic energy absorption, heat dissipation and initial gas escape; (b) a sharp gas pressure drop area using free multidirectional escape; (c) a second, complementary translational and rotational kinetic energy absorption and heat dissipation area; (d) a second gas pressure drop area using free multidirectional escape; (e) a bullet and/or splinter stopping area; (f) a third gas pressure drop area using free multidirectional escape; and (g) an anti-trauma area for absorbing the remainder of the kinetic energy of the bullet and/or splinter. These multilayer composite structures provide effective and shock-free protection against weapons and small-arms even when fired at point blank range.
