The backing material for making plastic-coated coated comprises a layer of paper (1), which can carry any sort of printing, made with at least one window (1.3) of dimensions corresp. to the plastic coated card being made. A first layer of plastic film is placed over the window(s) to be fixed to the back of the paper layer, and a second film layer is placed over each window, with a sufficient margin round the edge to stick to the film layer on the back of the card. The film layers can be of polyester, and the front of the card can be used to carry identification information or a photograph of the bearer. ADVANTAGE - Lower mfg. cost and wider range of uses.
