The roller skate has a chassis (3) which holds a line of wheels (6) that each have a hub (10) and a tyre (11). The diameter of the hub is nearly the same as the outer diameter of the tyre. A single, large diameter, ball- bearing (22) is put between the tyre and the hub. The tyre has a curved outer surface (18) and the ball bearing is near its centre of curvature. The tyre is mounted on the outer ring (24) of the bearing and the bearing is partly lodged in a recess in the inner periphery of the tyre.
