Detonator consists of a sleeve (1) containing a main sec. explosive (2), a ring (4) with a disc (5), and a pyrotechnic charge for bursting the disc, linked to an optical system (8a) for setting off the pyrotechnic charge. The optical system can be in the form of an optical fibre, an aperture or lens, e.g. allowing the pyrotechnic charge to be set off by a laser beam. The disc (5) can be made from a material with a low degree of resilience and an acoustic impedance which is as close as possible to that of the explosive to be detonated. It can have a central portion (5a) of increased thickness to improve the efficiency of the shock on the explosive being detonated. The thicker central portion of the disc is separated from the surrounding zone by sharp edges. ADVANTAGE - Detonator has greater security. It is insensible to electromagnetic disturbances, and suitable for use in the military field or for oil prospecting.
