The method involves arranging an electrically insulating igniter body (12) between two electrically conductive contact elements (14) that comprise contact surfaces (16). A bridge wire (22) is fastened at the contact elements, and ends of the bridge wire at two joints (24) are electrical conductively connected with the contact surfaces, respectively. The bridge wire is aligned in a plane (20) such that the bridge wire extends parallel to the plane. A pyrotechnic charge (28) is pressed on the igniter body and the bridge wire such that the charge is applied on the bridge wire. An independent claim is also included for a pyrotechnic igniter.
