Water from a source (A) flows down a tube (2) past a ball valve (3) to a collecting chamber (1). The collecting chamber (1) is extended by a vertical tube (10) to a source of high pressure air (7) and a second evacuating tube (11) within it connects a sump in the collector (1) to a disposal unit (12). In operation, compressed air is slowly but continuously fed to the collector (1) escaping via a ball valve (3). When the collector (1) is full and the ball (3) rises to the closed position, the compressed air forces the water out of the collector (1) along the evacuation tube (11).
