Treatment procedure for images e.g. video or film for measurement, transformation or viewing - using initial digitisation followed by compression, transmission and or recording, decompression and final use
The procedure involves digitising and treating initial video images to include image information and to compensate for camera characteristics or other parasitic factors such as spots or scratches on the film. The numerical data are then compressed using an Adaptive Discrete Cosine Transform or similar procedure. The compressed data are next transmitted and or recorded (60) and then decompressed (62) before further treatment (64) which may include image improvement, adaptation to final use also decoding any information inserted during the initial treatment stage. After the final treatment (64), the data may be used (66) for viewing, measurement or transformation. ADVANTAGE - Number of digitised images which may be recorded in given size of memory is increased without diminishing their effectiveness in final utilisation.
