The unit consists of a torsion spring (1) made from rectangular sectioned spring wire, with its coils (8) rolled into a helix. Its free ends are bent (5) and penetrate into recesses (6) respectively of a fixed element (3) and a moving element (2). The lateral surfaces (9) of the adjacent coils (8) are coated with an elastomer and are made to form rubbing surfaces (10) and are forced one against the other by an axial constraint. The rubbing of these lateral surfaces allow a damping of the oscillations between the mobile element (2) and the fixed element (3). Use/Advantage - For use as a damping unit in belt drives which is simple and cheap to produce.
